Hiya! Long time no see! How ya been?
Sorry about the last… 10 months?? Whoops… I was hosted on SquareSpace but they were expensive, so I moved to WordPress but never updated the template, so this site was a weird mix of template placeholder and actual content. I’ve finally taken the time to fix that, so the website is back up and functional! I will be posting more of course, and updating things like the gear and past projects pages.
Personally, if y’all were curious, 2024 was a horrible year for me in many ways, great in others, so my book has had no progress made. Taika Electronics is also basically dead, but I’ve had people ask about manufacturing so I might have a new lead to get back to that. My career as a teacher ended as soon as it started, lasting only 1 semester. I currently work freelance as a contractor with an indie production house in Australia, but will be retiring from professional sound design altogether this year and moving to Yokohama, Japan!
In my retiring I’ve decided to swap out a lot of my gear, so I’ve sold most of my Eurorack modular, several other synths, and a fair bit of ancillary gear (interfaces, NAS, cables, etc), and have so far acquired 3 new synths: a Behringer Pro VS mini, Behringer Proton, and a Korg MultiPoly. I also bought a Roland JX08, Moog Sub37 (both on order but arriving soonish), and am researching analog polysynths like the Moog Muse and Novation Summit. Idea is I wanna start making music that doesnt require knowing music to make, aka ambient techno (and synthwave, and ambient soundscape, etc).
You might be wondering, if I’m retiring and moving on to music, why keep the website? Well, synthesis has always been important to me since I was a teenager, and I’m still doing synth stuff and sharing knowledge and learning even more. Seems sensible to keep my little portal to the world open, keep sharing knowledge, things like that. WordPress actually helps with that a lot, as each blog post now has a really nice forum-like comments section where ya’ll can talk amongst yourselves (and me ofc), sharing ideas, thoughts, even whole conversations if you really wanted.
More posts to come, but until then, bye! ❤
